About
Basically, I’m tired of writing stupid posts about Lindsay Lohan’s lips and you’re tired of reading them. Let’s be friends.
My name is Japhy Grant and I moved to Hollywood to become a TV writer. Along the way, I became a journalist, a reality TV show editor, music video director and canyoneer.
A lot of people move to Los Angeles for the celebrity and movie industry side of showbiz. It’s why people like Nikke Finke and Perez Hilton are so popular. And then there’s me. I love stories; true stories, fantastical stories, stories that aren’t true, but ought to be. The most important thing I was ever told about drama was told to me by Tony Kushner. He said that all great dramas need three things: poetry, politics & popcorn.
I believe that. I think you can tell smart, insightful stories that speak to the fundamental experiences we all share as people. I think you can do that regardless of whether the story your telling is about Sudanese refugees or robots that transform into cars. And I think any writer who strives for anything less should be strung up and shot or alternatively, forced to watch Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever until their brain turns to goo.
That’s what Heroes & Villains is about– stories. And while I talk a lot about my personal experiences becoming a TV writer, I still think the best way to learn about storytelling is to tell stories. So, I’ll be telling stories. You know, poetry, politics & popcorn.
If you really want to know more about me, I have a website. Also, if you want to see some of the videos I’ve made, check out my tiny, tiny production company, JStrike Studios.
